WebP is a modern image format developed by Google in 2010, designed to provide superior compression for web images compared to JPEG, PNG, and GIF. Lossy WebP typically produces files 25-35% smaller than equivalent-quality JPEG images, while lossless WebP is 26% smaller than PNG.
