Calculating Work Hours and Pay
To calculate hours worked: subtract start time from end time, then subtract break duration. The result is your net work time. Many employers use decimal hours for payroll (e.g., 8.5 for 8 hours 30 minutes). This calculator shows both formats.
For a single day, enter start time, end time, and break in minutes. For a full week with different hours each day, use the multi-day option to enter each day's schedule. All calculations run in your browser — no data is stored or sent.
Weekly and Monthly Projections
If you work the same hours every weekday, multiply your daily total by 5 for a weekly projection. A standard full-time schedule is 8 hours × 5 = 40 hours per week.
For monthly estimates, multiply by 22 (approximate working days per month). This varies by month — February has fewer, some months have 23. The ×22 figure is a common rule of thumb for budgeting and salary calculations.
Break Time and Overtime
Unpaid breaks reduce your paid work time. A 30-minute lunch means you work 8.5 hours to get 8 paid hours. Enter the break duration in minutes; the calculator subtracts it from your gross time.
This tool does not calculate overtime. If you work more than 8 hours per day or 40 per week, you may be entitled to overtime pay under local laws. Use the results as a starting point and consult your employer or labor regulations for overtime rules.
