What Is Schema Markup?
Schema markup is structured data that describes your page content in a format search engines understand. It uses the vocabulary from schema.org, a collaborative project by Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Yandex. JSON-LD is the recommended format because it's easy to add and doesn't affect page layout.
Types of Schema and Rich Results
Article schema can enable article rich results with images and dates. Product schema can show price and availability. FAQ schema creates expandable FAQ blocks in search. HowTo schema can display step-by-step instructions. LocalBusiness helps with local SEO. Event schema shows event details. Person and Organization help establish entity identity.
Best Practices
Only add schema for content that actually exists on the page. Use accurate, up-to-date data — misleading schema can lead to manual actions. Keep required properties filled; optional ones improve richness. Test with Google's Rich Results Test before deploying. Use @context and @type correctly for valid JSON-LD.
