Fiji Time

Fiji Time (FJT) is UTC+12 in standard time and UTC+13 during daylight saving time. Fiji observes DST from November to January, making it one of the few tropical countries to do so — the practice was introduced in 2009 to extend daylight during summer evenings and conserve energy. Suva, the capital, is located on the island of Viti Levu and serves as the political and administrative center. Nadi, on the western side of Viti Levu, is the tourism gateway with the country's international airport. Fiji is an archipelago of over 330 islands (about 110 inhabited) spread across 1.3 million square kilometers of the South Pacific. The South Pacific Stock Exchange operates from Suva on FJT. Fiji's economy depends heavily on tourism, sugar exports, and remittances from the Fijian diaspora. The country also plays an outsized role in Pacific Island diplomacy, often hosting regional summits and serving as the home of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. Fiji's position near the International Date Line means it competes with New Zealand and Tonga for the distinction of being among the first places to welcome each new year.
