About Cape Verde (CV)
Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) is an archipelago of ten volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean, about 570 km off the western coast of Africa. This small island nation has one of Africa's most stable democracies and highest per-capita incomes. Praia, on Santiago island, is the capital and largest city. The Cape Verdean Escudo (CVE) is pegged to the Euro through a fixed exchange rate inherited from its peg to the Portuguese Escudo. For developers, the CV country code (note: ISO 3166-1 uses CV, not the newer 'Cabo Verde' naming) is used in pt-CV locale for Cape Verdean Portuguese. The .cv ccTLD is notably short and has been used creatively in domain hacking. The +238 calling code covers all islands in the archipelago. Cape Verde's diaspora is larger than its resident population, making proper internationalization important for applications serving Cape Verdean communities worldwide.
