About Bhutan (BT)
Bhutan is a small Himalayan kingdom between China and India, famous for measuring national success by Gross National Happiness rather than GDP. Thimphu, the capital, is one of the few Asian capitals without traffic lights. Bhutan is the world's only carbon-negative country. The Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN) is pegged at par with the Indian Rupee, and both currencies circulate. For developers, the BT country code maps to the dz-BT locale for Dzongkha, written in Tibetan script. The .bt domain and +975 calling code serve Bhutan. Dzongkha (Tibetan script, Unicode range U+0F00–U+0FFF) requires specialized text rendering support. The BTN-INR parity means both currencies function interchangeably. Bhutan's deliberate approach to modernization (television and internet were only introduced in 1999) creates a unique digital landscape. The country's emphasis on cultural preservation means applications should respect Bhutanese naming conventions and calendar systems alongside international standards.
